Unfortunately for many of us, this summer is shaping up to be tremendously hot and uncomfortable. Even worse, many offices don’t offer much better protection from the heat than just being outside. Maybe the air conditioner is on the fritz, or maybe you have a ton of glass windows with little shading. Whatever it is, working in an 80 degree office is nobody’s idea of a good time. To alleviate some of these problems, here are three tactics you can try to keep comfortable:

It’s summer time, and for pasty people like me that means one thing: Sunburns galore. Even when I slap on the latest suntan lotion from NASA, I still seem to get a burn somewhere unpleasant. Luckily there is a great product out there that provides instant relief to even the worst sunburns. What is this miracle product? Does the government know about it? Does it cost an internal organ to purchase?
In short: It’s called Solarcaine, I’m pretty sure the government knows about it, and it only costs an organ if you buy it from me (hey, I have bills to pay). This is a cold spray that you apply to your burn and then let dry for a few minutes. It begins to work almost instantly, and in my experience lasts for a decent amount of time (at least four hours). You can even pick it up at your local pharmacy or grocery store for relatively cheap, easily under ten dollars.
Give it a shot the next time you get a sunburn. I think you’ll be as happy with the results as I am.

It’s that time of year again, when all of those eager, wide-eyed college students storm offices across the globe. I’ve dubbed it the “Intern Rush”. Being new to an office setting, they really don’t know what to expect coming in. With this in mind, try to treat them as a regular new employee.
What does this mean? For one, they shouldn’t have to list on their resume that they fetched your coffee all summer. They’ve come to learn, try to teach them something. If all they do is meaningless tasks, they won’t get anything out of it and next year you could be facing a drought of interns. Also, try to be nice to them. It’s ok to rib them a bit, like you would do with any of your other co-workers, but be mindful of how far you go. They are probably pretty nervous, and it’s easy for someone in that state to take something said in jest the wrong way.
To sum up: Help them to get something out of their internship, and you will get a lot of value out of them.
