Networking is always a super hot topic in almost any workplace. I can’t think of an industry where even a small amount of networking won’t help your career. However, just because you give someone your business card doesn’t mean you’re networking. Networking is a far deeper commitment than that, as Lynnelle Bianco explains in her article below. Schmoozing…the word just sounds slimy, doesn’t it? To me, it sounds like a medical problem. However, it is unfortunately a word that is used by many business professionals to describe how they network. It has become so common place to use this word to describe networking that the two words have pretty much become synonymous, which is a shame because real networking and schmoozing couldn’t have more different definitions.
