During an interview, where do you look? Your feet? Your hands? That spot on the wall that is just a slightly different color than the rest of the wall? If you answered yes to any number of these options, then you are the audience I’m writing this article for. The fact of the matter is this: If you are not looking at your interviewer during your interview, then you are looking in the wrong direction 95% of the time.

  The Interview Edge: Know Your Resume Inside And Out

In Part II of this series, we will be discussing the advantages of knowing your resume like the back of your hand. If you missed Part I, you’ll find it here: The Interview Edge: Pre-Interview Research.

Believe it or not, I’ve seen people go into a job interview and be stumped when they get a question about part of their resume. I’m not sure there is anything that makes you look worse than getting a question about your resume and answering “Uhh…it was a long time ago….I really don’t remember”. After all, you wrote it, you should know the contents of it better than anybody. Here is what your potential employer is going to think: “If they can’t remember details about something they put together, what kind of value will they add to my company?”. This is the quickest way to receive a “Don’t call us, we’ll call you” email or letter in the mail.

  The Interview Edge: Pre-Interview Research

This is the first article in a series I will be writing called The Interview Edge. In these articles, I’ll be discussing tips and advice that I think will help you to nail your job interview.

For starters, I’m going to discuss one of the most important things that you can do to really make a good impression during your interview: Do your research. What does this mean? Simply put, this means that before you get to your interview make sure that you do some research on the company you are interviewing with. Why? Because of this question: “What do you know about our company?”.
