After evaluating both the pros and cons of Outsourcing, the final verdict is in: I’m more against it than I am for it. I think the biggest factor in my decision was the loss of jobs at home issue. There are many companies out there that could be using local talent to accomplish their goals but instead outsource many of their positions because of the cost. While I can certainly understand the business aspect of this, I just can’t support it 100%.

I have to quantify that by saying that I do not think outsourcing in general is a problem, or that the people that do the outsourcing work don’t do a good job. However, I do believe that too many companies have gone hog-wild with it. There is no greater example of this than in the customer service industry (see: Dell). This has led to a tremendous decline in quality in this industry, and has caused a severe backlash in the business world. As a consequence of the public uproar, Dell has started to bring more customer service jobs back home which I think is a good thing. This leads to a better balance in the workforce which helps both the consumers and the company.

In conclusion, I believe that outsourcing can be a good idea when used in moderation. As the old saying goes, too much of anything isn’t good.
