I’ve gotten this question a million times in and out of work: Do you know of a good antivirus program that isn’t expensive? This isn’t surprising, as you hear about viruses all the time on the news these days, and subsequently the cost of many antivirus programs can be pretty high (Norton being one of the big culprits here). While there are a bunch of free programs out there, I’ve found one that is exceptional: Avast!.

Avast! is a fully functional FREE anti-virus program that only requires you to register via email to get past the 60 day trial. It’s a great program that runs in the background and has caused no perceptible slowdown to my computer at all. Also, it automatically searches for virus definition updates and prompts you if there is a new software update available. The only catch here is that the free version is strictly for home and non-commercial use. They do have a professional version if you are interested for your company or if you want a few extra features that it provides.
