Mini-Rant: Viva La Belt!!!
There is a disturbing trend developing that is so insidious, so nefarious, and so EVIL that it seems to be flying under most good citizens radar. What could it possibly be? Do we need a young priest and an old priest? Does it live at Camp Crystal Lake? (Time to build more suspense)….
(Building…)
(Building……)
(BUILDING……..)
The trend that I’m talking about is when guys tuck their shirt into their pants and don’t wear a belt. I felt dirty just writing that.
What the heck is up with this? Maybe I just can’t comprehend it, but how does that NOT make you look stupid? It gets even worse when guys do this at work. What a way to ruin a nice, put together look then by not wearing a belt with your slacks and dress shirt. Hell, I’ve even seen guys wear TIES with no belt on. To me, this is just retarded, and makes you look unprofessional. What is the point of not wearing a belt? What does it bring to the table?
This seems to be happening more frequently here in the states, however even before I saw it happening a lot here I noticed that a majority of European guys were doing this. Is this a European trend? Last time I checked, they were still hyped on the “Disco Tech”, so I’m not sure why we are following their no-belt shenanigans.
One counter-argument I can think of is “Well, I don’t need to wear a belt for my pants to stay up, why should I wear one?”. The answer is simply because it looks better. We do this all the time. For example, you could wear regular white socks with your dress clothes, they would serve the same function as your dress socks. However, we don’t, because dress socks look better.
In summary, if you’re going to tuck your shirt into your pants, wear a belt. Don’t make me become a “Belt Vigilante”, but don’t think that I won’t do what has to be done to stop this evil from spreading any further.
Viva La Belt!
